SENERES Scientific Seminar “Reduction of CO2 and NOx emission in energy generation from biomass and coal”

On the 11th of July (Thursday) the SENERES Scientific Seminar “Reduction of CO2 and NOx emission in energy generation from biomass and coal” has been organised. Presentations within the seminar have been delivered by scientists from CIRCE Research Centre for Energy Resources and Consumption (Saragossa, Spain) and scientists of the Institute of Power Engineering (Warsaw, Poland):

Researchers from the Institute of Power Engineering have participated in the seminar and exchanged experiences searching for future possibilities of cooperation between CIRCE and IEn.

SENERES Workshop on protection and managemnet of IP

SENERES dedicated Workshop on protection and managemnet of IP took place on the 5th of June 2013 in the Institute of Power Engineering, Warsaw, Poland.

It has been organised in accordance with SENERES project realisation of Task 4.3 - Organisation of an intensive course/specific training on protection and management of Intellectual Property in the field of energy generation from biomass, clean coal technologies and fuel cells.


After last year's (2-3.04.2013) intensive training on protection and management of Intellectual Property and permanent collaboration with experts in the field now SENERES is concluding with a dedicated workshop, the self-tailored programme concerning the protection of Intellectual Properties. The scope of the workshop covered innovation strategies and processes of commercialization of the results of research works and inventions in the Institute of Power Engineering. Around 40 participants took part in the Workshop and actively analysed the suggested issues in the context of the Institute.

It has been conducted by Luk Palmen - the experienced expert, CEO of InnoCo Ltd. The company was established in 2007. InnoCo founders: Luk Palmen and Marcin Baron, accompanied by a team of related professionals, rely on several years of experience in setting up regional initiatives for innovation and technology development.

 

SENERES Workshop and Steering Committee

The Institute of Power Engineering has organised SENERES Workshop and Steering Committee on the 13th-14th of May 2013.

The title of the workshop was: "Clean coal technologies with CO2 capture – gasification and oxy-combustion technologies”. It was conducted by speakers from ECN (Petten, The Netherlands) will be: Dr Rian Visser, Dr Luc Rabou, Dr Jan Pels and Dr Paul de Wild.

Workshop topics included, among others: problems of thermal conversion of biomass and waste, electricity and heat generation from waste, co-combustion of biomass with hard coal and lignite, exhaust gases cleaning and use of gas fuels.

It has been a successful meeting gathering around 40 participants from Poland and from abroad. The workshop was attended by researchers of the Institute of Power Engineering, the partners of SENERES project form TU Delft (The Netherlands), KTH (Sweden), Cambridge University (Great Britain), CIRCE (Spain) IFK USTUTT (Germany) and CNR_ISTEC (Italy), members of the Steering Committee of the project, representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Industry (PGE) and representatives of the Institutes of Power Engineering from Romania and Lithuania.

During the first day of the workshop there was also organized the SENERES Steering Committee, attended by professor Jacek Wańkowicz, director of the Institute of Power Engineering.

SENERES Scientific Seminar

On the 6th of February 2013 a Scientific Seminar was organised within SENERES project realisation. The Seminar was entitled: Materials, processes and fuels for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. It was an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and learn about some scientific experiences and achievements presented by reserachers from the Institute of Power Engineering as well as other European research centres:

  • Piotr Plaza, TU Delft/Faculty 3mE, Department of Process & Energy, Energy Technology Section, Delft, The Netherlands, Optimisation of Coal/Biomass/Waste Fuel Blends to Minimise Slagging and Fouling – Model Development and Validation,
  • Dr Irene Malpartida Garcia, Departamento de Ingeniería Química, Universidad de Málaga, Spain, Multicomponent FTIR-MS-GC gas measurements: Operando system,
  • Dr Yevgeniy Naumovich, University of Aveiro,  Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering, Portugal, Oxide materials for high temperature solid state electrochemical devices: properties, conditions and requirement,
  • Dr Carlo Resini, Genoa, Italy, Heterogeneous catalysis for the Fuel Cells development,
  • Dr Janusz Jewulski, Fuel Cells Laboratory, The technologies for high efficiency, low emission, clean energy generation with fuel cells,
  • Dr Izabela S. Pięta, Fuel Cells Laboratory, Catalytic fuel preprocessing for high temperature fuel cells.

There were thirty five participants of the seminar, including employees from  Fuel Cells Laboratory, Thermal Processes Department, CENERG and the invited guests. 

The seminar was organized to facilitate the recruitment of new scientists within the SENERES project. The call for the researchers from the field of energy generation from biomass and SOFC systems closed on the 31st of December 2012. Four applications were selected within the recruitment procedure. The chosen scientists participated in the seminar during which they had an opportunity to exchange ideas and learn about some scientific experiences and achievements presented by researchers from the Institute of Power Engineering.

 

May 15-16, 2012, SENERES Workshop on energy generation from biomass and clean coal technologies – combustion and gasification problems, Warsaw

The first SENERES thematic Workshop will be organised on the 15th and 16th of May 2012 in the Institute of Power Engineering in Warsaw (36 Augustówka Street).

The main objective of this Workshop will be to exchange scientific information - in particular to  facilitate knowledge transfer between SENERES and research community in the area of energy generation from biomass and clean coal technologies.

Thematic scope of the workshop covers the following issues:

1. Energy generation (centralized) from biomass with the focus on:

  • corrosion, slagging and fouling
  • ash quality
  • fuel quality
  • fuel upgrading
  • including aspects of R&D and commercialization strategies for new biomass-based technologies

2. Energy generation from biomass with the focus on:

  • FB biomass gasification-based CHP
  • product gas cleaning
  • prime movers
  • system efficiencies

3. Clean coal technologies (incl. CCS) with the focus on:

  • corrosion, slagging and fouling
  • NOx emissions

The workshop speakers will be prof. Jaap Kiel, dr Mariusz Cieplik, dr Lydia Fryda and dr Christiaan van der Meijden (ECN, Petten, The Netherlands); dr Weihong Yang (KTH, Stockholm, Sweden)
