Clean coal technologies

Coal oxy-combustion with CO2 capture is developed in the area. It covers R&D of technologies to improve plant efficiency firstly, and reliability and cost conversion technologies producing electricity but also secondary energy carriers (including hydrogen) and liquid or gaseous fuels. “Clean coal” in this context really means a sustainable solid hydrocarbon value chain with a focus on efficient and clean coal utilization, i.e. coal use aiming at zero or significantly reduced emissions by means of enhanced plant efficiency and CO2 capture and storage. Advanced modelling using computational fluid dynamics software are applied. The newly built combustion system used to study the oxy-combustion of coal dust in f swirl dust burners with a heat capacity of 0.5 MW is unique in the country and Europe.
